Mutiny belongs to the expanding genre best described as “Jason Statham does Jason Statham things.” This time he is a former Special Forces and NYPD officer framed for murdering his billionaire employer, which eventually puts him aboard a cargo ship punching, kicking, stabbing and shooting his way through an international conspiracy. The title barely makes sense, the plot feels algorithmically assembled, and neither the characters nor choreography offer much to remember. It is not aggressively terrible; it simply has no reason to exist unless watching Statham efficiently beat people up is reason enough for you.

This is a Jason Statham movie. That's basically the review.
I could barely even remember the title while I was writing this review. Had to stop and check.
It's Mutiny.
Why is it called Mutiny? I don't know. There was no mutiny. There is a ship, so... okay.
Jason Statham plays a former Special Forces/NYPD guy now working private security who gets framed for murdering his billionaire boss and eventually ends up on a cargo ship uncovering an international conspiracy. But none of that really matters.
Jason Statham is Jason Stathaming.
There's an entire class of movie now that I would just call the Jason Statham movie. Some woman or group of people is in danger. Usually there is an international component. Frequently there are Asian characters involved. Somebody has done something they should not have done. Jason Statham must now punch, kick, stab and shoot everybody between himself and the resolution of that problem.
That's it. He's going hand-to-hand, gun-to-gun, knife-to-knife, whatever we've got.
I don't understand how they keep making these, although I suppose the answer is obvious. Guys like me keep paying to watch them.
It was at least nice that the American military gets to play relatively straight heroes here instead of discovering in the third act that the evil conspiracy was secretly a government conspiracy. So there's that. The twist is that there's no twist.
But this is not good. It's also not offensively bad. It's just Jason Statham. There is no reason to watch this unless you specifically want to watch Jason Statham do Jason Statham things.
You could ask ChatGPT or Claude, "Give me a Jason Statham script involving a billionaire, a conspiracy and a cargo ship," and I promise you, you'd get Mutiny.
I'm fairly certain that AI actually wrote this movie tbh. No thought. No character study. Nothing particularly interesting happening with the choreography. Jason shows up. Jason beats people up. Movie ends.
