Splitsville gathers several married people who are relentlessly cruel to one another and calls the result a comedy, although “romantic” has no place in the description. Every relationship is toxic, nobody should remain married and the movie never gives us even one person whose happiness seems worth protecting. It resembles a Judd Apatow relationship comedy from a decade or two earlier with the empathy and much of the charm removed. I enjoyed parts of the hostility, but meanness becomes monotonous when there is no human counterweight.

I don't have any extended deep thoughts on this one. They're just all so mean to each other. That's my take away from watching this. This is definitely not a "romantic" comedy. None of these people should be married. Every interpersonal relationship between them is toxic. This is kind of like watching an Apatow film from a decade or 2 ago, but not as funny or charming. I enjoy this, but it would've been a more enjoyable movie if the writers and director had given us at least one character to empathize with.
