Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie is built for people who already love these characters, recognize its young-Gen-X/older-millennial references and share its highly specific comic rhythm. Those viewers are giving it five stars and probably mean every one. Anyone outside that circle may find the same experience unbearable. It is not a bad movie so much as a cultural sorting mechanism, producing unusually intense reactions in both directions. My rating lands deliberately in the middle: the fairest answer for something whose audience will either feel completely seen or wonder why everyone else is laughing.

If you haven't seen the show, you probably don't wanna see this. I know the rating is confusing, all of the fans of these guys are giving it five stars. This is not a bad movie. It's whatever. It's funny if you're young Gen X or old Millenial and get the references and like this kind of humor. Otherwise odds are you're gonna hate this. You're gonna feel hard-core one way or the other. That's why I'm giving it 2.5, dead middle.
