Mercy is being treated online like a cinematic emergency, complete with half-star ratings and endless War of the Worlds comparisons, and I simply do not see the disaster everyone else apparently watched. It is not extraordinary, but it moves well enough and looks impressive on an IMAX screen—already more than many reputation-assisted three-star movies manage. If you have free time and access to the format, the visual presentation provides a perfectly reasonable night out. The backlash is more dramatic than the film.

I liked this well enough. I’m not sure why it attracting so much hate and angst, nor do I understand why it’s being spammed with War of the Worlds comparisons here. Given how many awful movies skate through letterboxd with three stars based on rep alone, yall gotta be kidding with some of these half stars. 🤣 if you've got some free time go for it in IMAX. It looks great if nothing else.
